Why do greyhounds race?
Although this breed exhibits a pointed snout they actually have not developed a good olfactory skill. So this means this breed is one that has to virtually sight its prey in order to go after it because it cannot track it. That is why when greyhounds race there is a fake, read electronic, rabbit or hare running in front of them on rails on top of the fence surrounding the track So what these styled animals are really doing is chasing its prey and not actually running to compete for who is faster.
History has shown us how Middle-East cultures used them and idolized them. An example in the Egyptian culture which left us many paintings showing these animals always near the Pharaoh or someone belonging to the high society. So at the end, this amazingly fast running breed has traveled a lot before getting to the United States and be kept as racing breed.
