Why do dogs follow tracks?
It's their natural instinct to do so. And they have helped man throughout history in tracing not only preys, but hunting down serial killers and convicts escaping from prison. As a descendant of predators their ability to smell has developed widely and it actually could be consider a gift. Perhaps we should consider it not a gift but one of the most important survival tool a dog has.
There are some breed of dogs that are more qualified than others, and used in different areas. For example hounds like the beagles are good for sporting activities while others like the bloodhounds are good for finding people.
