The Reason Puppies Chew On Things
As humans it is sometimes hard for us to understand why it is that puppies do certain things. Well, the answer to this is pretty obvious actually; they aren't humans. Keep in mind that they don't come into our homes already knowing what they are supposed to touch and not touch. It's funny but they sometimes seem to pick our most valuable things to chew on such as the leather couch, or the legs of the dining room table, or those wonderful new shoes you just bought. Well, for puppies there are certain things that simply feel good in their teeth, sometimes they like to drag the object "prey" as well, and remember that everything they chew on has the scent of the owner on it too. Therefore something with either the puppies' odor or a human's odor on it will most likely be what the puppy will go after.
If you want to help your puppy the first thing you will need to do is watch him and supervise him. Teach your puppy gently that it is not allowed to get into those things and provide something else to him so he can chew on it instead such as a rawhide bone; just remember that your puppy will not know this off the bat, he will need to be taught these things and eventually he will learn what he can chew on and can't chew on.
