Puppies That Eat Feces
As gross as it seems, dogs sometimes eat dung. They are scavengers at times but a dog will do this in order to obtain something that has calories in it; even other dog's poop. Puppies are however a little less picky than adult dogs when it comes to this and it is actually common for puppies to eat feces as disgusting as this may seem to humans.
Make sure that if you do catch your puppy eating excrement, to take him to the veterinarian to make sure he is not suffering from any dietary deficiency, which can sometimes be the case, in other cases it could be caused due to a medical condition. Dogs that are under stress or are bored will sometimes eat feces as well. A dog that is getting plenty of exercise, is well fed and stimulated should have fewer problems with this.
Not to worry though as most puppies grow out of this distasteful habit, however if your puppy is having continual problems with it then he probably needs to get treatment for it. Make sure to feed your puppy at regular schedules and to check with your veterinarian as to how much you should feed him and try getting rid of any poop before your puppy encounters it and eats it. There are certain products that can be sprinkled on top of the poop so that when the puppy goes to it, it has an unpleasant taste.
There are some dogs that never grow out of this unpleasant habit though. The best bet you have is to simply prevent the puppy from having any access to it. Just remember that the best way to handle this type of situation is to prevent it rather than disciplining, as it probably won't work the way you want.
