New York Pet Boarding
I have a friend in New York with a pet boarding facility and the other day he gave me some suggestions on what to do before putting my pet into a New York pet boarding facility. Since my dog is still a puppy and I don’t necessarily have all the time I would love to have to attend to all his needs because of my work. So I decided I would get some help from professionals. What my friend told me was that since my dog was still a puppy to have realistic expectations first off. You cannot expect an untrained dog to come back home ready right away. I was told that a lot of what can be done during pet boarding stays depends a lot on the dog’s personality and if he has had any previous training, which in my case, my dog hadn’t. However, most dogs that assist these types of programs go home ready to progress further with consistent follow up on the owner’s part. I was told to reinforce my dogs training as this is a problem since there are pet owners that do not practice at home. The end result of this is that the dog does not retain what he or she has learned in the training sessions. It is also important for the pet parent to go and receive training on how to reinforce training in their dog. Taking training sessions with your pet is the best way to learn and follow up on training. There are group obedience classes that are very entertaining and these should be done once a week at least, as this will help the owner to keep up and learn what they need to do with their pet at home. It’s nice that here in New York the pet boarding facility staff are so willing to be of assistance in any way that they can. |
