Keep Dog Feet-Paws from Infections:
Take the Mud Off

Dogs don't see were they put the paws on and they walk over mud as if it where grass. Wet mud is no problem, but when it gets dry, the rough ends can irritate the paws. Clean the paws with warm water and soap. Or if it is summer to soak him with a hose, to eliminate the mud before it gets dry and hardens.

Take the Salt Off From Him: Winter is very aggressive with canine paws, due that air dries them and the snow, ice and salts from the highways wears them off and irritates them. Also, the salt dissolves itself in between the toes making the paws an ideal place for the developing of bacteria. A dog can suffer a kind of putrefaction, due to the combination of bacteria, salt and humidity. It's hard to have to clean his paws every time after going for a walk, but it is the only way to protect him. Too make it a little easier you can leave a bucket with water near the entrance. This way you can wash him each time he enters the house.

Cut His Hair: Even if the hair protects him from the rigor of the weather, the hair on its paws accumulate humidity and prevents the circulation of air. If you cut the hair that grows in between the toes. Its paws will be more dry and healthy, overall if they are of a long hair breed. Hold first one paw in one hand and separate the toes. With a rounded tip scissors on the other hand, cut the hair following the symmetry of the toes.

Cut the Peelings: Sometimes dogs when running over hard surfaces, their paws peel. Even the whole sole of its paws could peel. If you see a piece of skin hanging, cut it. Don't worry you won't harm him, due that the superior layer doesn't have any nervous tissues, it's better to cut it than to leave it hanging. After cutting the peelings, clean well the paw. Usually, it will last in between 2 and 4 weeks before healing. While the skin is regenerated, don't let him walk over hard surfaces.

Buy Him Shoes: Does he go outside too much? In rough weather conditions, usually need an extra protection. In pet shops you can buy boots to protect the paws in winter as in summer. At first most of them won't wear them. To get the dog get used to them out the boots on them for one or two minutes once or twice a day. If you do it on a daily basis during a couple of weeks, leaving the boots on him each time for a longer period. Until he gets used to them.
