Skin Infection in Dog

Skin serves to protect the dog and for maintaining constant the body temperature, but it's not made of iron, which is a pity. Due that they are always exposed to all kind of weather conditions; the skin is vulnerable to all type of infections, being from bacteria, viruses or funguses. Skin infections are some of the most frequently treated problems by veterinarians. They also constitute a problem for the owners and, not only because it affects the health of his pet. But some as the favus of the mange, are contagious to people and could be a problem to their family for this reason is very important to identify the problem and act immediately.

Skin infections are usually detected right away, due that the skin gets irritated and reddens. Other symptoms are the itching, that causes the falling of hair on some areas, and the emission of a nasty odor. But even if you know that your dog is suffering from an infection, it is not always easy to know of what type. To leave the doubts out, go to the veterinary. Once you know the type of infection that is causing the problem you can help with the cure.

Bacterial Infections: Most of the skin infections are caused by staphylococcus, a bacterium that usually lives inside the skin without causing any trouble. However, if the immune system is weaker than usual, that can evolve and provoke a pruritus and even ulcers. Bacteria also develop if there is too much filth or fat near the skin, or if the friction, overall on areas without hair, starts zone fit for colonization. There are various types of bacterial infections, but there is one you should know how to fight and is the one most easiest to treat the infections on the folds of the skin.

Skin folds infections: Dogs as the Shar-pei usually present big folds or flaccid soft skin all over the body. Others, as the pugs and the bulldogs have a frowning face with a double chin. Unfortunately, this wrinkled aspect attracts something more than laughs and compliments. These dogs are inclined to have skin infections because bacteria develop on the warm and humid areas of the folds. Due that bacteria develop with heat and humidity, you have to refresh and dry the skin.
