Fighting Fungus in Dog

There are many creams, liquids and pomades against fungus on sale in the market. Whatever you use, apply it over the infected skin once a day during 6 or 8 weeks, for more serious cases; it is possible that your veterinary will recommend a medicated bath or a pharmaceutical drug against fungus to be taken orally. Surely you will have to bathe him before starting the treatment and 6 or 8 weeks later when finished. If you buy a disinfectant against fungus in a pet shop, consult first with your veterinary to be sure you are buying an adequate product. For your dog. Keep the treatments going until the ulcers have completely disappeared and are no more of a risk.

Clean the Whole House Well: The fungus that causes the favus is very resisting and can survive more than one year on the fallen hair on rugs, furniture or on mops. The only way to avoid your dog from contracting a new infection is by maintaining your house clean and by throwing away all the

falling hairs. Veterinaries recommend to sweep and to pass the vacuum cleaner at least twice a week while the treatment lasts. You can also pulverize the substances with a product against fungus called cloromexidina. Dilute 28 grams in 4 liters of water.

You can also use the mix to sweep a wooden or vinyl floor.

Clean the Furniture with Vapor: If a dog is used to resting on an armchair with a cover that doesn't come off, you will have to clean it with vapor. If you can't heat the water enough you can rent one of those machines from a hardware store. To eliminate fungus the temperature must be of 42°C.

Trick: An easy way to finish with the favus fungus is to wash the bed clothes and the dogs cover, also everything he has touched, with very hot water, detergent and a spurt of lye. Wash everything once a week for several weeks after the dog's recuperation.

Don't Forget the Cats: The favus is usually transmitted from cats to dogs, although, you can't see any symptom in your cat, possible that the he too is infected. Treat the cat at the same time as the dog. However, ask your veterinary for the kind of medicines that each can take, due that some products are not the same for dogs and cats, and, can be dangerous for either of them.
