Tips Preparing Homemade Cooked Diets

Folks who cook for their cats have control over the ingredients in their diet, ensuring a natural diet that may be easier to digest and assimilate than commercial pet foods. Those who choose this diet claim that their cats have a better coat and skin and are healthier overall. However, there is a lot of preparation involved in these diets and you may want to take a look at how to prepare a homemade diet before you decide it is the answer for you.

A basic home cooked diet is made up of the following:

• 20 Percent Grains
• 20 Percent Veggies
• 60 Percent Meat

You'll want to do plenty of research to figure out how to get your cat all the nutrition that she needs. However, if you would just like to give her a home-cooked meal now and again instead of her normal commercial food, here's a couple of recipes that you might try. Keep Pesticides out of Food

• For leafy vegetables that are not organic (like lettuce), swirl the produce in a dilute solution of Palmolive dish soap and water at room temperature. Do this for 10-15 seconds.
• For harder-skinned vegetables use a soft brush to scrub the food in the same solution of Palmolive and water for 10-15 seconds.
• Peel off outer layers.

Recipe for Breakfast

• 1 tablespoon nonfat dry milk
• 2 tablespoons water
• 2 large eggs
• 3 tablespoons lowfat cottage cheese
• 2 tablespoons grated zucchini or carrots

Mix water and nonfat milk powder, add eggs and beat. Cook eggs in a frying pan on medium low heat until done. Spread cottage cheese on one side and sprinkle zucchini or carrots on top. Fold over like an omelet. Allow to cool and then cut into bite sized pieces and serve.

Recipe For dinner

• 1/2 pound boneless chicken breast cooked
• 1/2 hardboiled egg
• ½ ounce sardines
• 2 tablespoons olive oil

Chop chicken and egg together and combine all ingredients. Serve at room temperature.
