Cooking a meal for the birds
Birdie Bread
- 1 box cornbread mix
- 2 eggs washed, with shells on
- ¼ Cup Milk
- ½ cup thawed mixed vegetables
Preheat Oven to 350 degrees
- Mix ingredients together
- Bake on a cookie sheet for 20-30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean
- Cut into cubes and Freeze
- Feed one cub a day
- Birdie Bread is a good addition to a pelleted diet and for a treat.
Breakfast Parrot Bread
- 2 boxes corn muffin mix
- ¾ cup Kashi cereal
- ½ cup Cheerios
- 1 cup slow-cooking oatmeal
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 cups apple juice (no added sugar)
- 2 eggs in shell
- 1 peeled apple, diced
- ¼ cup light corn syrup
- ¼ cup grated zucchini
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- Mash all the cereal ingredients.
- Mix all dry ingredients.
- Add wet ingredients mixing well.
- The mixture should have the consistency of a normal batter, add more apple juice to moisten further.
- Line muffin tins liners.
- Fill cups one half full.
- Bake For 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool, save some for daily feeding and freeze the rest.
16 Bean Mix
- 16 Bean Mix
- 1 cup brown rice
- ½ cup pasta
- 1 cup frozen vegetables
- Soak 16 bean mix overnight in covered pan on stove.
- Rinse.
- Bring to a boil.
- Cover and lower heat, slow boil for two hours.
- Add rice, boil another ½ hour.
- Add vegetables, boil another 15 minutes.
- Cool.
- Store in freezer bags containing three days worth of servings.
- Freeze.
Waffles
- 1 ½ cups flour
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 teaspoons baking powder
- ½ cup blueberries
- ¼ cup pecans
- Pinch of cinnamon
- Pinch of salt
- 2 eggs
- 1 cup mile
- ¼ cup melted margarine
- Preheat waffle iron
Mix flour, sugar, baking powder, blueberries, cinnamon and salt. - Beat eggs until foamy then add milk and melted margarine
- Mix wet and dry ingredients, beating until smooth
- Pour ½ cup onto waffle iron and cook until brown.
- Cool.
- Serve slightly warm.
