Fasting for Cats and Dogs

In order to carry out a successful fasting process, which is a crucial internal disintoxication treatment, you have to understand the reasons behind it. Fasting is the natural instinct of any animal that is sick or wounded, because with the suppression of food intake, the forces on the organism concentrate all their power in fighting the disease or healing the wound.

If during this period you force the animal to eat, introducing the food by the mouth, you'll cause serious intestinal inflammation, and the subsequent diarrhea as well as nervous inflammations.

It has been proven that any animal can fast up to three weeks just as long as there is water at the animal's disposal. In order to understand more about the peace process, I myself have carried out a lot of experimental fasts. The hardest period is the first three days, because there is the desire to eat at certain hours, but after this time period, the animal will start to feel well. I have honestly carried out a number of prolonged fasts, including one that lasted 15 days and even one that lasted three weeks.

I will never insist enough that the fact of giving food to an animal with fever represents the cause of most of the nervous complications that you can find in, for example, canine distemper. Of the hundreds of feverish cases that I have had to treat, only a small percentage of them developed any symptoms of mental pathology, and was because the animals were brought to me when the disease was already in an advanced state; the damage to the nervous system had already been caused.

Another important thing is that you should always make sure that the quality of the water that you are giving your animal is top-notch, and, as in most of the big cities, the water that you get is usually highly chlorinated, it is advisable to get fresh bottled water for this time period.
