Dogs Have A Natural Instinct For Raw Meat
One of your healthy dog's, whose instinct for natural food hasn't been quelled, most gratifying pleasures is certainly to dig out meat which has been hidden underground for a long time, because we must remember that the dog is by nature a scavenger and hunter. If kept for many days, cooked meat has a different evolution process; it turns kind of greenish and starts to sweat. Giving your dog old cooked meat is unconsciously like giving him poison.
I recently stumbled upon some interesting articles in a magazine which talked about the importance of feeding dogs based on a raw meat diet. The articles also mentioned that ancient greyhound breeders preferred lamb meet, which I also prefer, with the exception of big dogs which do better eating horse meat or cow meat, which are denser.
A friend of mine who was able to raise a good number of terriers, greyhounds and other dogs during the war years, was in favor of feeding dogs with raw meat. He mentioned that if a dog finds a dead dog underground, he will unearth it and eat it. It seems to be that dogs love doing that; besides, meat, in those conditions, is perfectly normal. - I wonder if that is not getting too close to nature (which man can rarely outdo).
The other night while I was dining with a Dr. Behemondo, a good friend of mine, and who is the new administrator of a dog hound near to where I live, he commented that the strongest and healthiest dogs are those that eat mainly raw meat; he doesn't think that breeders will go back to a diet based on old Neil and that, although he has on the occasions cooked the meat to avoid it from getting rotten, he often gives his dog meat "which is not in its ideal state", without any negative consequences.
