Dog Flea and Tick Medication
The question of kennels and whether dogs should be kept outdoors or indoors is always a heated topic for discussion. For sure any dog kept outdoors should use a strong and effective dog flea and tick medication to protect it from potentially dangerous sicknesses. But there are also many good reasons why it makes sense to set up a backyard dog kennel. One of the most common reasons for using a dog kennel is to contain your dog while you have visitors over. For you and your family it is probably best if your dog is free to roam around the backyard as it helps to keep your house safer from unwanted intruders and since your dog knows you and considers you and your household part of its family there usually is no problem. However when you are entertaining whether adult friends or your children's friends it is often very important for you to be able to keep your dog contained in a way that protects both your dog and the people around it. This is why simply putting your dog on a chain doesn't work because people can still try and touch it thereby running the risk of being bit. Also chains have a way of becoming entangled or even falling off of your dog at the most inopportune times.
The next most common reason for using a backyard dog kennel is probably the need to keep your sexually mature female dog safe from unwanted sexual approaches by male dogs during estrus (heat). This is especially true for people with pedigree dogs who specifically want to breed them although it is also just as important for anyone with a dog that hasn't been neutered. Another reason for using a dog kennel is that often in our ever expanding cities there are incidents involving wild animals and since these encounters with wild animals is the number one cause of rabies infection it is obviously a smart idea to keep your dog safe from being bitten or having potentially dangerous contact with these animals.
