Wooden Dog Houses

My Labrador and I discovered that wooden dog houses have their own unique problems which are not as easy to right as we had hoped.

I found out that woodendog houseshave to be treated for termites, and if the wood isn't treated correctly it can easily become wet and begin to rot. Not only this but if your dog has a bathroom accident inside his house the wood can become not only stained but impregnated with the smell of his urine or feces. Now we all know the problems, which can arise from a dog that has accidentally done his business the wrong location. That spot forever becomes an accident magnet. Getting the smell out of wood can in fact cause more damage to the surface finish of the wood than the feces or urine did in the first place. Thankfully we were only looking into buying wooden dog houses and hadn't yet decided on what it was exactly we wanted. My first thought had been to look into cedar wooden dog houses but when I discovered all of the problems associated with wood I became less sure. At present I have a plastic house which although functional is far from eye pleasing. Not only because it is plastic, as I have seen some humdinger plastic dog houses, but because of the age of the house and wear that my Labrador has given to it. We have had his house since he was a puppy and so you can imagine the abuse it has suffered over the years. He is well trained now and rarely goes back to his old chewing problem but once in a while… So wooden dog houses…? To buy or not to buy that is the question!
