Woody Wood Pecker, my dog, lived in a wooden dog house. He was as content as any pooch could be living in that little red roofed wooden dog house. The only problem was that when it had been raining for a few days the inside would start to smell like rotting wood. I was worried for my Woody Wood Pecker cause that smell would also get onto him. A dog no matter how cute that stinks is not much fun to be around. I used a variety of shampoos on him and many different deodorizers on his little wooden dog house but to no effect.
There were some powders which were supposed to deal with the humidity but they also only had a limited affect.
I even thought of getting a new
dog house made of better wood like cedar. I had heard that cedar wooden
dog houses have less problems but I still just wasn't sure. The situation was getting desperate as all my family members were complaining about the smell on Woody. Not knowing what to do I did what any self respecting dog owner should do. I went to the professionals. I talked with the very nice people over at Pets R Us about my wooden
dog house and its stinky problem. Well one of the people I talked to asked me if I had tried elevating the
dog house. Oh what a fool I am!!! Of course that was the solution I needed. So right away I built a little platform about a six inches high and place my Woody's wooden
dog house on that. I haven't really had any more problems with the rotting wood smell although from time to time there is still a humidity smell in the
dog house, but I think that just goes with the territory.
