When accidents happen

When you are training a puppy to urinate and defecate in determined places it's normal for the puppy to have occasional "accidents", but you should never punish a dog for having had an "accident" in the house. Make sure also, to never use the dog's crate as a punishment area; crates are intended to be a home for the dog, not a punishment prison. The reason for this is because a dog should consider his crate his favorite resting place. When an accident has occurred, clean the dirty area with a perfumed disinfectant. Doing this will avoid the dog from coming back to defecate in that same place, since that is what dogs do. Make sure to clean the messed up area right away as dog feces are unpleasant and are a risk for your health. Use rubber gloves and wash your hands immediately after cleaning. Do not use products that have ammonia because it has a similar smell to their own urine.
