What to do if your dog vomits

What to do when dog vomits

If your dog has only vomited once but has not had any other symptoms like diarrhea etc, you will not need to rush him to the veterinarian, just follow these steps:

  • Don't give your dog any food for the next twelve hours.

  • Make sure that your dog does not drink an excess amount of water. The ideal is to give him about one cup every two hours and make sure to not give him any milk as this may cause him to throw up again.
  • If it is cold outside make sure the dog remains inside so that he stays warm and have him rest as much as possible.
  • If the dog has not vomited in twelve hours you should feed him food that is easy to digest food rich in protein and carbohydrates. These kinds of foods include: Sautéed chicken, meat or white fish mixed with rice. Make sure to only feed him small amounts every four hours and if the dog does not throw up again, you can slowly go back to feeding him his regular food within the next two days.
