Weaning off the Dog Clicker and Dog Treats

As your dog becomes completely proficient with a certain behavior you must wean him off of the clicker. Remember that the click and treat always go together as this is what gives the click its motivational power. To wean your dog off of the click simply have him repeat the action a couple of times before you click. He then realizes that he must continue to perform the action before he gets a click. Never just abruptly discontinue the click and reward, as this will only confuse your poor dog. As you slowly wean your pet off of the click and food lures. You and your dog will both become more relaxed in public and you will feel more confident of his abilities.
