Warding-Bravery-Defense skills test dogs pup
The Warding skills test allows us to know if a dog would make a good warden. It can be done when the pup is 4 months old or older. You start playing with the dog and, after a while, the owner puts a leash on the pup and pretends to sleep. After 10 minutes, an unknown person has to approach to the owner. If the dog realizes this immediately, it means that, with a proper training, it can make a good warden. On the contrary, if the dog doesn't, it means that it tends to get distracted easily, which means it will not be so good. The reaction itself is not what matters, what is important is the velocity of it.
Bravery skills test
The pup has to take the Bravery skills test when it is 4-7 months old. While the dog is strolling with the owner (in an isolated place and with a leash on), an unknown person approaches, and ignoring the dog, stretches the hand of the owner, drops an object, picks it up and leaves.
There are several possible reactions to this test:
The brave, biting dog adopts a hostile conduct fro the first moment, trying to bitewhen the stranger stretches the hand of the owner, or when he/she tries to pick the object up.
The cowardly, biting dog adopts a hostile conduct as well, but seeks the protection of the owner, usually hiding behind his/her legs.
The non-biting, brave dog behaves indifferently and receives the stranger shaking its tail.
The non-biting, cowardly dog hides the tail between the legs and does its distance from the stranger.
Defense skills test
The Defense skills test is simple, as it only requires the presence f the dog and the owner, and provides some important information on he defense aptitudes of the dog, which has to be 8 months old approximately. Take the dog outdoors and set it free of the leash in a safe place. There are different possible behaviors. The dog remains close to the owner or returns to him/her after a little running about. This is the behavior of a dog that is too submissive to the owner, maybe because of its own personality, or maybe because of some mistakes made in the education. Defense skills are poor. The dog runs away immediately, or runs in circles that get broader and broader, until it disappears out of sight. This dog is the opposite, there is a lack of docility and the defense skills are poor, but can improve with a proper education. The dog runs away and returns, then goes back again and all his routes begin in the place where the owner is. This dog is one that knows how to use the time for exploring, and is curious, but at the same time keeps the owner as the center of attention. Its relationship with the owner is good, and it does have defense skills.
