Using a Leash to Control Untrained Dogs

Remember that every time your dog runs off and enjoys doing this he is more likely to not come back at your call. Don't allow an untrained dog to roam around without aleashin an unsafe area and in a place where it will be difficult to get him back. If a dog does not have good judgment of things he can put himself in a dangerous situation.Doing this can cause him to run off into the street, eat something harmful, or get lost. Use a leash on your dog if you love him, and this way you will avoid the opportunity for him to run off. This also helps your dog to realize that while he obeys he will not have to wear the leash whereas if he disobeys the leash will be put on him. Don't use the leash to pull on him though. Use it to limit his options and help him to learn the best alternatives. Make this transition simple and eventually he will be ready to not use the leash anymore.
