Using a Leash for Potty Training

Using a Leash for Potty Training

Unless for some reason your dog will not accept a leash you should always keep him on it while taking him out for a potty run. Keeping your dog on a leash lets him know that you are not in the yard for fun but rather to take care of his business. Use a dog leash that is at least six feet and let him walk in a circle around you while you remain stationary. If he goes, you should shower him with praise. Don't take him out into the neighborhood to use the potty unless you plan to do so even in the dead of winter.
