Urinary incontinence in a dog

Urinary incontinence (which is when a dog cannot hold it's pee in) can come about because of many reasons. Usually this problem is seen more in females than in males, and it sometimes happens when the female's body is having difficulty controlling the valves that open when she needs to urinate. This problem can also occur when a female dog has malformations in her bladder or vagina. Other things that can cause urinary incontinence are lesions that affect the nerves located in the spinal cord, such as the malformation of invertebrate discs, or in the case of male a dog, the swelling of his prostate.

Renal problems in a dog: There are chronic diseases that interfere with the filtrating job of the kidneys. There are certain toxins that begin to accumulate in the body of the animal when it's kidneys are failing, the dog may become excessively thirsty and urinate a lot. Other symptoms are lethargy, loss of appetite, and halitosis (bad breath). If left untreated, the dog can have chronic renal failure, which causes the deterioration of renal tissue, which can then turn into cancer. This disease is usually irreversible but it can be controlled with a special low protein diet. Infections, urinary obstructions, poisonings, as well as serious lesions can cause renal failure. You will be able to notice this condition in the dogs urine because it will have a strange color and or clots of blood in it, the dog will throw up, and feel pain in it's stomach area. Make sure that if your dog stops urinating, to take him to the veterinarian immediately.
