Dog Training courses for dog owners

If you don't have any experience with dogs, or have never had a dog before, you can take training classes to learn to train your dog effectively. These kinds of classes are also very useful for people who have specially stubborn or rebellious dogs. These courses also help and benefit everyone since even the most experienced dog owner will learn something from them. If you don't have the time or courage to learn how to train your dog yourself, there are professional trainers that can help you. Make sure to find a recognized trainer and ask him if you can see the way he trains (without your dog there) to see what methods he uses etc. If the trainer is the type that uses force or pulls on the dog etc, find another trainer. Usually the age that dogs begin their trainings are at fourteen weeks or at six to twelve weeks if they are all the same age.

Basic training steps
Sit:

  • Sit on your knees in front of the puppy.
  • Keep the prize in front of him. This will make the puppy stretch his neck to get close to the prize; as the dog does this use your other hand to push on his behind legs, making the dog sit.
  • As the dog sits, say "Sit!" and prize him.
  • Repeat the session as many times as needed.

Stay:

  • Hold on to the dog by the leash and have him sit (give him his prize as usual for obeying). Stay standing by his side and say "Stay!" If he remains sitting, give him a prize.
  • You should increase the "sit" and "stay" time.
  • Let the dog know when training is over by saying "ok" etc.

Heel:

  • Stand and have the dog stand next to you while on the leash (hold the leash so it is short) without moving, if the dog does this, prize him.
  • The leash should now be left longer and you should start walking with the dog saying "Heel".
  • If the dog does not walk at your pace, you should stop, and have the dog come back next to you.
  • Start the whole exercise again.
