A very long time ago, a long tailed animal began its slow evolution process and turned into Canis familiaris – now known as mans best friend, the dog. Dogs have ever since then, kept us company, protected our homes, scared off untold strangers and dangers, and even saved our lives. All this of course without thinking they were going to get paid for it, they did it (and continue to do so), for our affection and company. Dogs are great, what can I say?

Keep in mind that overfeeding a dog just five to ten percent a day over what it needs will add a lot of dangerous kilograms to your pooch's body. You will be able to control your dogs weight by keeping his food amounts consistent. It also helps to control the urge of just adding a little more to the dogs bowl.

Believe it or not, as our waistlines increase and expand, so are our dogs'. Obesity has quickly become the number 1 health problem for dogs as well! Too much weight will put too much stress on your dog's bones and reduces a dog's life span and can cause death, it can aggravate arthritis, and cause skin problems, affect the immune system and the dog's ability to fight diseases, and many other things, so keep your dog at his proper weight!

• Feed the right amount to your dog.
• If you have any leftovers that have been sitting in the refrigerator for three days or more, get rid of it, unless you are completely sure they are safe.
