Ten keys to Dog Training success

Although there are some universal "keys to dog training success." You as your dog's trainer must remember that your pet has a distinct personality.

  1. Be patient. Not all dogs learn at the same speed. They certainly don't have to comprehend, as fast as we think they should and if you are patient it will give your dog a better chance of success.
  2. Planning is everything. Help your dog to be successful. If he is having a problem learning something then go back to the drawing board and plan the steps out better.
  3. Be fair. If y

  4. Be loving. Teach with positive methods what you want your dog to learn.
  5. Try not to punish. Anger fueled reactions to your dogs behavior do not benefit anyone. Instead of correcting, teach him what you want him to do.
  6. Use those rewards effectively. Give your dog what he desires when his behavior merits it. He may need more than just a "good boy" to cause him to repeat his good action. His reward is his compensation so don't skimp out on him.
  7. Be generous. A common mistake among beginners is to be cheap with their rewards. When your dog responds correctly to your command, reward him and if he does really well give him extra special rewards and praise. Remember to vary those rewards between food snack, toys and games etc…
  8. Have set goals. You must know what you want and how you plan to have your dog reach that goal if you want him to be successful in reaching it.
  9. Practice, practice, practice. Teach and train your dog in quick and frequent sessions.
  10. Be positive. End while your dog is still interested. A student who is motivated will always be eager to learn.
