Teeth and Gums

They must be clean, without any plaque in between the teeth. When plaque penetrates the gums it can produce gingivitis, and it can even derive into an alveolar pyorrhea provoking emaciations and loss of teeth. A dog with plaque has bad breath and often has dental abscesses.

In order to fight plaque, you must clean the mouth frequently. A good method is to do it with slices of lemon, rubbing it on the teeth as lemon dissolves calcium tartar. Another more comfortable method is to give your dog, at least once a week, a big cow bone so that he can chew on; that way, he will clean his teeth while he has fun.

Dogs don't usually have teeth problems until after they are 1 year old. From that time on, their teeth become grey and yellow – evident sign that something is not right.
