Taking Care of your Dog's Nails

Long nails don't let the dog walk well; they will often get stuck and break. As a general rule, active dogs that do a lot of exercise usually don't show signs of nail problems because, interestingly enough, exercise helps keep the nails at their ideal length. 

In order to cut your dog's nail, do the following: with one hand press the dog's paw in order to make the nail come out and cut the nail with the other being careful not to cut the vein located in the same area. There are a lot of nail clippers for dogs in specialized stores.

There are some breeds of dog that have a fifth nail. These should have more frequent checkups, this is because this nail doesn't wear out at all, so its growth is constant and it can grow into the flesh.
