Symptom of illness in Dog

Even if the dog cannot tell you what the matter is and what hurts, you are able to discover a dog is ill by watching its behavior. Symptom of illness in dog include loss of appetite, apathy and sudden changes in attitude are signs that there is a problem. Sometimes dogs hide and get scared easily when they're in a new home. Do not worry about this, just wait until it gets used to its new life.

Information the vet has to have: Information you give to your vet is absolutely vital for the diagnosis and treatment of you dog illness. It is best to write down anything unusual, and the time all this things have been happening. Describe the symptoms scrupulously (postures, sounds, etc). Use this list a reference:

  • When was the last time the dog ate?
  • Did it have any difficulties eating?
  • When was the last time it defecated?
  • Was there any complication or pain?
  • What were the droppings like? What color? Was there blood?
  • Has the dog thrown up? Frequently?
  • Does it sneeze, cough, drools too much?
  • Does it have fever?
  • Does it limp?
  • Did he stop walking? When and how did it happen?
  • Does it have problems to get up?
  • Can the dog jump or climb up stairs?
  • Does it lick, scratch or bite any region of its body?
  • Does it rub its backside against the floor?
  • Does it shake or scratch its ears frequently?
  • Does it react with expressions of pain when you touch it in certain regions?

What you need to know: Your quality of owner demands certain ability to help the dog follow a treatment correctly. You need to know a couple of things:

Fever in Dog: It is not true that hot nose or ears are signs of fever, quite the contrary, and a cold nose is a sign of fever, as well as a hot belly or inner thighs. Use a thin unbreakable thermometer. With the dog standing, insert the thermometer 3 cm inside the rectum (use cream to help). It is advisable that you don't do it alone; another person could be holding the dog. Take the thermometer out after 2 or 3 minutes. If the temperature is higher than 39ºC (small dog) or 38.5ºC (large dog) then it does have fever. If the temperature is too low, it might also be a symptom of another disease.
