Stalker Dog Stew Recipe
The dog that lost his bark: In ancient Egyptian scrolls we find pictures of the Basenji looking exactly as they do today. In the nineteenth century British explorers discovered this remarkable breed in the Belgian Congo where they were used as hunting dogs by the local tribesmen. The Basenji has a tightly upcurled tail, a wrinkled forehead and amazingly enough no bark. It quickly became a hit among dog lovers. Its lack of bark is not its only amazing trait, the Basenji also takes great pains to stay clean and licks its whole coat much like a cat does.
Ingredients
½ chicken, cut into 4 pieces
1 cup water
1 bay leaf
¼ teaspoon oregano, dried
¼ teaspoon thyme, dried
Salt
Ground black pepper
115 grams sausage links, cooked and chopped into small pieces
1½ tomatoes, diced
1 carrots, cut thickly into strips
3 small baby cabbage , peeled
½ cup Brussels sprouts, trimmed
½ liter chicken stock (see directions for preparation)
Kibble (see recipe)
Bring chicken to a boil in a pot. Add bay leaf, oregano, thyme and salt and pepper to taste. Simmer with lid on for about 20 minutes. Place potatoes, carrots, baby cabbage , Brussels sprouts and sausage into pot with chicken and let simmer for another 20 minutes or so. Take care that the stew doesn't dry out. When chicken and vegetables are tender remove the chicken and take out the bones. Place kibble in dog bowl and arrange chicken and stew over the top. Use the stock as gravy over the whole plate.
Makes about 1 liter of chicken stew. Next: Chicken Vegetable pie
