Shingling the dog house roof If you want your dog house to be 100% water and weather proof this is the most important part.- Cut and attach with staples the 15-pound building paper on the roof outer surface. Make sure the seams overlap about 6 in at the roof peak, to seal out any leaks.
 - Fasten the asphalt shingles with roofing nails, just like shingling any roof; starting at the bottom and working your way up to the top making sure you overlap each shingle. Protect the roof peak with a double layer of overlapping shingles nailed into place.
