Sesame Seed Cookies for Dogs Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups of whole-wheat flour
2 cups of unbleached all purpose flour
4 tablespoon of toasted wheat germ
1 cup of turbinado sugar
2 tablespoons of desiccated liver
2 eggs
1 cup of melted butter
1 cup of chicken broth, or as much as needed
½ cup of sesame seeds
Preparation
- Use a large bowl and a wire whisk to mix the whole-wheat flour, all purpose flour, wheat germ, sugar and liver together.
- In a medium size bowl beat the eggs and butter together with a wire whisk until it acquires a smooth consistency.
- Make an indentation in the middle of the flour mixture and then pour the egg mixture into it.
- Use your hand to blend it all up together and mix until it turns into a soft dough and starts to pull away from the bowl it is in.
- Next, turn the dough over onto a lightly floured surface and knead it several times. Then divide the dough into 4 pieces and shape them out into log shapes about 1 ½ inches in diameter and then roll them into the sesame seeds. Then wrap the prepared logs and place them in the refrigerator for around 5 hours or until baking time.
- Place the oven rack in the center of the oven and pre heat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place 2 slightly greased baking sheets on the side.
- Then take the dough logs out of the refrigerator and cut them into ½ inch slices with a sharp knife.
- Place the slices onto the prepared baking sheets and bake them for around 15 to 20 minutes or until you notice the edges are golden brown and they look dry. Take the baking sheets out of the oven and allow them to cool completely.
- Once the cookies have cooled completely, put them back inside the warm oven in one baking tray and allow them to sit in there undisturbed without opening the oven door for 10 to 15 hours straight.
