Separation anxiety in dogs

Separation anxiety in dogs: If your dog shows symptoms of anxiety by barking, howling, doing his needs in the house, or by behaving compulsively when left alone in the house, it's possible the dog suffers from separation anxiety, however it will be necessary to get the dog a check up to make sure the dog does not have other physiological problems. If the dog acts the same way in the presence of his owner, it is a different problem. Dogs that suffer from separation anxiety tend to show an extreme dependency of the owner and they hate being left alone. On many occasions these types of dogs are obedient and affectionate, but they follow their owner everywhere, some even follow them into the bathroom. It's not abnormal they get bothered when they see the owner getting ready to go out, and then become insanely happy to see the owner come back home. When the owner leaves the house, these dogs tend to let out their frustration for a little while after the owner has left, but they don't necessarily spend the whole day misbehaving. There are different reasons and factors that can cause a dog to become anxious. If your puppy for example, has been close to you during his entire puppy hood and then all of a sudden you start leaving the house for hours at a time, it's possible the dog will not be able to handle this inexplicable abandonment. This is why it is important a puppy be taught and learns to be left alone during times of the day by leaving the dog alone for ten minutes at a time and then gradually increasing the amount of time you leave him. A dog that does not have emotional equilibrium can also start suffering from separation anxiety from one moment to another. Another example is when an animal has gotten used to being around his owner all the time and then all of a sudden the owner leaves him alone (like if he has to go back to work after having been on vacations etc). Older dogs have a tendency to get separation anxiety as well since with age they start becoming more dependent on their owners. This especially happens a lot with dogs that have gone blind or deaf. These kind of special cases require for the owner to leave them with someone who can tend to them while the owner is gone.
