Rules for Cold Days

Rules for Cold Days

The coldest season causes some problems which will require you to adopt specific measures.

  • Cut it's hair in the month of October. And you shouldn't bathe it in the winter months.
  • When you walk your dog it's better to do so when its cold and dry than when its cold wet and humid. Active dogs are less sensitive to the cold then slow dogs, and long haired dogs are also more resistant then short haired dogs.
  • If it's humid and cold you can put a small coat on older dogs and shorthaired dogs which live in warm houses to avoid it catching a cold and/or arthritis.
  • At the end of a walk when it's cold and wet, you should dry off the dog with a towel and hairdryer because they catch colds just as we do.
  • Only well trained dogs (in summer) can run along established sidewalks, be aware with other runners.

  • Before going for a walk in the snow you must put a cream or oil on the paws of your dog. After the walk you should bathe them in hot or warm water. This way you protect it's paws from the salt used to thaw the streets.
  • Even though the dog likes to eat snow, it's not good for it as it may cause diarrhea, or if its stomach is empty it can cause a gastric mucous which will make the dog sick and throw up.
