Puppy Privation Syndrome Symptoms
They are due to the lack of normal social conducts; anxiety seems to turn into depression. The first signs arise between four and six months. Owner face and animal with constant fear, and with negative attitude towards education. The disease starts with a privation anxiety phase, that can evolve into depression.
Destruction. One of the symptoms in puppies is destruction of all house's objects (for example the sofa), or the car. Placing the puppy in a quiet place may have a great effect.
Self destruction. The dog gets angry with himself and mutilates. Going back to a poor place in stimulus, can reduce the problem but not solve it. These two attitudes are easy to eliminate if the owner gets some help. This anxiety is not catastrophic. However, it can turn into a critic situation. The social behavior of the puppy is then very strange. He is completely inhibited, and refuses any contact with his owner, even to look at him. He seems to fear any new object. Doesn't eat or waits till night to do it. Owners are desperate and pushing the puppy will increase the problem. The dog can turn aggressive.
Depression: The last phase leads to depression. The puppy seems indifferent to his environment, and adopts repeated attitudes. It's hard to start a therapy in this phase. Therefore the importance of prevention, and the attention that must be given to the raising conditions of the puppy. The privation syndrome has more to do with the breeder than the owner, cause the latter comes too late: but it could be that both are the same person.
