Puppy Dog Asphyxia

Death by asphyxiation is one of the primary causes of death amongst puppies. This problem can often have a positive outcome if there is a correct and adequate response. Remember that the body's organs have only a limited reserve of oxygen and without swift intervention the puppy could suffer irreversible brain damage or even death. Make sure that there is nothing blocking the puppy's airways and that it can breathe freely. If it is not breathing then you must begin artificial respiration immediately and if there is no pulse then you should begin CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) on the puppy. Seek immediate help from your veterinarian or local emergency clinic.
