Practice walking at "Heel" while passing close by other dogs.
The teams should stand in a line one behind the other. At a signal from the course instructor all of the dog trainers with their dogs should begin moving forward in a straight line. At another command from the course instructor the first team in line should make a 180 degree turn and the teams behind should follow in order.

Practice walking at "Heel" in a circle. The teams should form a large circle with each team taking up the position of the numbers on an imaginary clock face. When the course instructor gives the signal all of the teams begin walking clockwise while maintaining the circle formation. At another signal from the course instructor the first dog trainer and dog would make a 180 degree turn into the circle and walk in a counter clockwise direction passing close to the teams walking in the clockwise outer circle until they reach the last team in the circle. Making another half turn they rejoin the outer circle.

The next team in line would perform the same action and then the next etc… until all of the teams have had a turn walking on the inside of the circle. The course instructor can change the directions of the circles from time to time to make this exercise more interesting.

Practice walking at "Heel" in two circles. Half of the teams form a large outer circle and the other half form a smaller inner circle. The course instructor has a number of different options of how to make this exercise work and each has a number of different degrees of difficulty. Be sure not to expect too much of either the dog trainers or the dogs. It is better for the teams to confidently complete a exercise than to become confused and frustrated by trying to accomplish something that they are not ready for.

The outside circle moves clockwise and the inner circle walks counter clockwise.
Both circles move in the same direction and at the same speed.
Both circles move in the same direction but the outer circle walks faster while the inner circle moves at a slower pace.

The dog trainers in the inner circle stop their dogs and have them sit or lie down while the outer circle keeps moving around. Then you can reverse this and have the inner circle begin moving while the teams in the outer circle stop and the dogs sit or lie down.
