Dog Skin Lesions

Dog Skin Lesions or Bone problems in dogs often times have to do with abnormal growth of the bones and articulations during the dog's growing phase and some dogs have problems with arthritis as well (common in older dogs). A lot also has to do with the breed of the dog; bigger breeds are more prone to having hip problems and pain in their bones while they are growing, other common ailments are tumors and broken ligaments, whereas smaller breeds with short legs tend to have less problems with these things. If your dog has a problem with his legs most likely the veterinarian will want to do X-rays on the dogs leg. In most cases the veterinarian needs to administer anesthesia on the dog since it's almost impossible to handle the dog when it has a lesion. The veterinarian will probably also want to take advantage and get some samples which he will then send to the laboratory to get checked.

In some cases the diagnosis is difficult to get and when this happens the veterinarian will send you to a specialist. A lot of the problems that dogs have with limping can be cured with surgery such as fractures in the bones, dislocations, and genetic malformations that occur during the growth stage etc. The veterinarian will give the dog anti-inflammatory and analgesic medications to help relieve the pain. The dog will need to be in complete rest and not move as much as possible, to be able to heal completely. When the dog has healed, he will need to get exercise but this must be done gradually to avoid him from getting hurt again. There are occasions in which the dog also needs to get physiotherapy to be able to recover the movement and flexibility of the damaged articulations. Be careful if your dog is overweight because this also tends to cause problems with limping, especially if the dog is older. If your dog is overweight, your veterinarian will probably want him to go on a special diet.
