 | Motivating less active dogsDogs that have the personality of couch potatoes can be more difficult to get going unless they understand what it is you want. It is almost as if they want to know from the beginning where you are going with all of your instructions and games. Take it easy and slow with these types of dogs. Short training sessions are best for lower energy dogs as otherwise they lose interest and they especially hate a lot of repetition. Try scheduling your sessions before their mealtime while using interesting and tasty rewards to motivate as this often helps to inspire them to give their all. The easiest of all dogs to work with, are those who fall into the medium energy category. These dogs are more patient which is very important when you, as a trainer, are just starting out and making lots of mistakes. Repetition for them is no problem, and they don't lose all interest if you blow it or mess up your plan. These moderately active dogs are relaxed and enjoyable; they can turn on the power if inspired to, but otherwise just go along with the program as you lead.Personality and social temperament |
