Dog to Dog Socialization

So far we have been dealing with dogs who although are normally well behaved andmannered simply don't handle themselves well on a leash. However dogs who have had no socialization or not enough experience around other dogs are much more problematic. It is crucial for you to let your puppy of eight to eighteen weeks be around other dogs and that he have many good experiences when it comes to other canines. If you miss these crucial early weeks your dog will have problems getting along with other dogs as he gets older. Dogs must be allowed to interact with other dogs as when they are kept to themselves they lose their ability to socialize well. Also dogs learn about each other and how to communicate with one another, what is acceptable behavior and what isn't during their times together. If you have an adult dog that did not have the opportunities as a young dog to socialize do not attempt to force him to get along with other dogs. Once your dog has become happy living without interacting with other dogs trying to make him do what you want could cause him to react aggressively out of anger and frustration. Respect what your dog wants and if it is to be left alone, then leave it at that.
