Irish Setter type dogs come from an undefined crossing, among the breeds that originated them are Bloodhound Molossoids. The breed expanded along with the Celts: France, south of Germany, Holland, Ireland and Scotland. The first dogs of this breed were called "ducked" (espanir means "to duck" in French, and from this word comes Spaniel), as they used to duck and crawl whenever they found a bird, making it possible for the hunter to catch many birds at once. These dogs evolved into the Setters and Spaniels of nowadays. The first representations of Setter-like dogs are from the Middle Ages in Europe. e eighteenth century, when falcons where used for hunting. The Irish Setter is older than the English and Gordon Setters, which are the other two varieties.

Character of the Irish Setter Dog: This big dog is athletic and needs lots of exercise and discipline. Irish Setters are sensitive and shouldn't be educated with roughness. They are also a bit obstinate and uneasy. Their owners should know to combine softness and firmness in their education.
