Hyperactive Puppy & Hyperactive DogThere are numerous possibilities as to why some puppies are hyperactive. Some of the reasons include: exaggerated play, forcefulness, normal physiological predisposition and physiological alterations. There are some breeds that are naturally hyperactive dogs and that have a natural need to hunt and chase etc such as terriers amongst others. On the other hand, most puppies can be considered hyperactive because of the way they love playing and rough housing and this type of play reinforces their natural senses and in some cases these are reinforced by the owner when he or she chases him, knocks him down, lets himself get hunt etc. There are moments though, when a puppy needs to understand that not every thing is a playing matter. The way to handle this type of behavior is by orienting the puppy's game and playtime in an adequate way, teaching him to differentiate it before the puppy adopts the wrong behavior. This is done by stopping the puppy as much as possible when he begins to get show hyperactive conduct out of play times. One convenient way to get your puppy to stop being hyperactive is to have him follow a command and to teach him basic obedience training such as "Sit", "Down" which is done by applying pressure on the puppy's behind while you command him to "Sit" etc. etc. At first you will have to help the puppy since he will probably give you a bit of a hard time and will not want to listen, but keep it up and the results will be great. Remember to always praise and congratulate you puppy right at the moment he does what you want him to. |
