How to House Train a Puppy

How to House Train a Puppy

As soon as your puppy has already adapted to your home, ask your friends and neighbors to come and pay him a visit, so that the puppy gets to know as many people as possible. Social contact is part of How to House Train a Puppy.  After the puppy has gotten his vaccinations, take him out on walks so he can meet other animals. Get him used to the different types of noise that exist outside of the house such as the traffic, and take him out on short rides in the car. Whenever the dog behaves well, make sure to prize him and praise him so that he wants to behave the same way next time. If the puppy goes through a nasty experience such as if a car that is passing by honks and scares him, try not to pay too much attention to the matter, ignore it. Instead you should do something to attract his attention to get his mind off of the traffic; doing this will build up his confidence.

Another good idea is to take your puppy to socialization classes before he turns fourteen weeks. In these classes, puppies are taught to play with other dogs their same age, learn to interpret the language of the other dogs, to be sociable with people they don't know, and they also teach them some basic training. Good socialization trainers will help dogs who are excessively shy learn to relate to their partners, without instilling fear in them, and a good trainer will also show you the owner, how to deal with the puppy without physical punishment.

Questions and answers
Q:
I have a Shetland who is ten weeks old and who doesn't have any brothers or sisters. I have taken her to some socialization classes, but she is always hiding. Should I force her to socialize with others?
A: Dogs that don't are born with no brothers and sisters often times have trouble communicating with other dogs. This is probably because they have never played with other dogs. Forcing your puppy to socialize will only make her shyer and she might even become aggressive. In these cases it's suggested to just let her go at her own pace and observe other dogs if she wants.
