How should I prepare for the birth of a puppy dog?
As a general rule, gestation period is of about 63 days, more or less. If your female dog has not been vaccinated recently, before coupling, your veterinarian can recommend one using dead bacteria. It can probably cause serious defects to the puppies, if your female is vaccinated with living bacteria while still in the uterus.Revaccination assures your dog having a high level of antibodies in her milk, when starting to nurture the puppies. Another important consideration is to disinfect the female to reduce transmission of virus to the puppies. Follow your veterinarian's indications in this matter; larval worms in the female will wake up from their inactivity at the beginning of pregnancy, and can get into the puppies before birth.
