These types of foods can cause problems such as obesity and pancreatitis; this last disease mentioned is very common in dogs and causes a lot of pain to the dog. Dog feed your dog any chicken or turkey skin or any fatty foods for that matter. Poisoning Signs: If you have any reason to believe you dog has been in contact with poison make sure to immediately let you veterinarian know. Poisoning signs include vomiting, diarrhea, shaking, seizures, drooling or salivating (more than normal), skin ulcers, bleeding, swollen red skin, swollen red eyes, depression, and lethargy. Foods You Must Never Feed Your Dog - Alcoholic drinks: These can cause intoxication, coma and death.
- Any types of bones, from fish, poultry, or any meat: Bones can cause obstruction or tears in the digestive system.
- Cat food: Cat food has been known to have too high of a content of fat and protein in it.
- Coffee and chocolate: Coffee and chocolate contains theobromine and caffeine. These can be toxic and affect the dog's heart and has been fatal in some cases.
- Fat trimmings: These can cause problems in the pancreas (pancreatitis).
- Hops: This can cause seizures, increased heart rate, and death.
- Human vitamin supplements: These can hurt the lining of the digestive system and be toxic to other body organs such as the kidneys and liver.
- Liver: Liver (in large amounts), can cause toxicity that affects the dog's muscles and bones.
- Macadamia nuts: These have a toxin that can cause damage to the muscles and nervous system.
- Marijuana: It can cause vomiting, changes in heart rate and slow down the nervous system.
- Mushrooms: These contain toxins that can affect several systems in the dog's body, and can cause shock and death.
- Onions: Onions have disulfides and sulfoxides that can damage the red blood cells and cause anemia.
- Peaches and plum pits: These can become obstructed in the dog's digestive tract.
- Persimmon seeds: These can cause enteritis and intestinal obstruction.
- Raisins: These contain toxins that might affect the kidneys when eaten in large quantities.
- Raw eggs: Raw eggs can contain salmonella, and have an enzyme called avidin, which reduces absorption of biotin. It can bring about skin, hair and coat problems.
- Raw fish: Can bring about a vitamin B deficiency which then leads to a loss of appetite, seizures and has caused death in some occasions.
- Salt in large quantities: This can bring about electrolyte imbalances.
- Sugary foods: These will lead to weight problems; dental problems and can cause diabetes.
- Spoiled foods: These can contain many toxins that will cause vomiting, diarrhea and can affect other organs.
- Tobacco: Tobacco contains nicotine that will damage the digestive and nervous system.
- Yeast dough: This can produce gas and expand the dog's digestive system and cause a lot of pain and rupture of the intestines and stomach.
