Grooming a silky-haired dog
Some breeds have long softy silky hair and these require a lot of attention. Some dogs, such as the Yorkshire terrier, don't have a hairy undercoat, therefore they must get special treatment to avoid their skin from getting scratched or hurt.
- Use currycombs that are special designed combs to get rid of mats in a dog's hair. Brush these mats out softly without pulling roughly on them to not hurt your dog.
- Brush the dog's hair again using a soft wire brush to increase shine. By now, you should be able to run the brush through the dog's hair smoothly.
- Use a steel comb to comb the dog's body and his hips on both sides. Make sure to brush downwards on both sides of his coat. If the dog has any uneven ends, you can trim these with some scissors.
- Carefully cut the hair that is around the dog's eyes and ears, using some hair cutting scissors. You can trim the hair that falls in front of the dog's eyes, or use a bow to tie it up. Groom a Dog better.
