German Shepherd Breed Information, Puppie & Dogs
German Shepherd dogs are considered the "ultimate dog", and are one of the most intelligent breeds, as well as strong and versatile. This breed was created in 1889 by the marine captain Tittmeidser Max von Stephanitz, who wanted to create a strong shepherd dog. When the demand of shepherd dogs decreased, Sthepanitx encouraged the police to use them, and also the army, where the German Shepherd dog has proved to be more than useful. They are also usually among the best in obedience competitions. Until 1915 there were 3 kinds of coat: short, long and hard. Dark hair has disappeared. Long coat dogs are still born, but are disqualified in exposition shows. German Shepherd is used nowadays for multiple tasks; searching, rescue, anti-drug actions, as a police dog or warden, guide dog, etc. The monks at Saint Bernard are still breeding these dogs, but use the German Shepherd for rescues.
