A dog's family: If puppies have gotten used to living and being in the company of human beings during their socialization phase – which is a sensible period that occurs between three and twelve weeks of age – they then learn to very quickly accept a human family as their substitute pack.

In the same manner, children very quickly accept dogs into their worlds and lives and both benefit from the mutual company. Even though it is true that both humans and dogs have the same needs for company, the fact is that we do not speak the same language, and in consequence, communication can sometimes be a bit of a problem. Hugging an animal is something that comes natural for humans when we love a dog, but for a dog it is different since they only do this when they are fighting or mating.
