External Parasites in DogsThis parasites have a double action: they suck the blood out of the skin, which makes the dog scratch and hurt itself, and also may carry infectious diseases in them. We can prevent this using repellent products, such as collars or shampoo, and keeping the dog's habitat always clean.Fleas: This one is the most popular parasite. It is transmitted via direct contact or ingestion. It can also affect man. The flea's saliva causes allergic dermatitis. The most sensitive areas are the ones with most delicate skin, such us head, ears, abdomen and inner thigh. Ticks are gray or brown (when they're full of blood). And can transmit piroplasmosis or Lyme's disease. Infections and dermatitis are caused by the bite, for ticks have an incredibly strong mouth apparatus. Lice are not as common as fleas. They cause dermatitis. You can see the nits in the hair. Mange Mite: These acrid arachnids cause skin injures. Which are known as Mange. There are several types of mange, depending on the species of the parasite. Sometimes mange can be mistaken with dermatitis, that's why it is important o take the dog to the vet. Inner Parasites in DogsStomach parasites are divided into nematodes and cestodes. Nematodes are very common in pups, if they aren't eliminated, they may cause digestive problems. They live in the intestines and they absorb the food there. Cestodes grow inside the animal's organism, and their grubs can be transmitted by fleas. Protozoa: These are unicellular organisms that live in the digestive apparatus. They can be transmitted via water ingestion. They can cause coccidiosis, which is a kind of diarrhea, dehydration and vomiting. Ticks can transmit them, and they are lethal if the animal is not taken to the vet. |
