7. Short term memory: This one is always done before test number 8. In an empty room, show the dog a candy that doesn't smell too strong and let it smell it. Without them looking place it in a corner of the room (you can have someone holding the dog). Take the dog out of the room for ten seconds and have them com in again. Start the timer.

  • If they go directly to the food. 5 points
  • If smelling they go almost directly to it. 4 points
  • If they start looking randomly and finds it in less than 45 seconds. 3 points
  • If they look for it but after 45 seconds they haven't found it. 2 points
  • If they don't even try looking for the food. 1 point

8. Long term memory: Do this test right after number 7. Do exactly the same as 7 but this time place the candy in a different corner and have the dog go out of the room for 5 minutes.

  • If they go directly to the food. 5 points
  • If they go directly to where the candy was in test 7, and then to the right place. 4 points
  • If smelling they go almost directly to it. 3 points
  • If they start looking randomly and finds it in less than 45 seconds. 2 points
  • If they look for it but after 45 seconds they haven't found it. 1 points
  • If they don't even try looking for the food. 0 point
