Dog liver sauce recipeChop lickin' good: The expression "lick one's chops" means expressing eagerness to eat something savory. The word "chops" is slang for lips so the expression literally means, "lick one's lips." Both cats and dogs have been known to demonstrate their desire for some tasty morsel by licking their lips. One cat was recorded licking his lips fifty times for one single treat. This liver sauce will get even the most picky pet licking his chops.Ingredients 1 ½ tablespoons butter ½ cup chicken livers ½ cup Chicken Stock (see recipe) ½ tablespoon cornstarch 1 teaspoon chopped chives Salt Sauté chicken livers until well cooked in half of the butter and then blend into a purée. Use chicken stock to thin if necessary. Mix cornstarch and remaining chicken stock. Melt leftover butter and mix in the cornstarch mixture, chives and salt to taste. Cook until smooth and thick and mix in puréed chicken livers. If too thick just add some water. Serve over grains or kibble. Makes about 2 cups of sauce. |
